US-Cuba Tensions Rise After New Military Warning

United States President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have increased pressure on Cuba by raising the possibility of military action against the island nation.

Rubio told reporters that Cuba has posed a national security concern for the US because of its links with Russia and China. Trump also suggested that he could be the president who finally takes direct action on Cuba, a statement that has added to growing tension between Washington and Havana.

Rubio Says Diplomacy Remains Uncertain

Rubio rejected claims that the US is trying to carry out “nation building” in Cuba. Instead, he said Washington views the issue as a matter of national security.

Although Rubio said the US would prefer a negotiated agreement, he warned that the chance of reaching a diplomatic solution is low under Cuba’s current political system. He argued that Cuba’s economy is broken and cannot be fixed without political change.

Rubio also said Cuba has spent years trying to delay pressure from Washington, but insisted that the Trump administration is now more focused and serious.

Cuba Rejects US Accusations

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez strongly criticised Rubio’s comments, accusing him of using false claims to encourage military aggression.

Rodriguez said the US was wrongly portraying Cuba as a threat and warned that any attack could lead to bloodshed on both sides.

Cuba has repeatedly rejected Washington’s accusations and says US pressure is aimed at destabilising the country’s government.

US-Cuba Tensions Rise After New Military Warning

Tensions Rise After Sanctions and Indictment

The latest warnings come after the Trump administration imposed new sanctions on Cuba, introduced a fuel blockade, and increased military activity in the Caribbean.

The US also indicted former Cuban President Raul Castro in connection with the 1996 downing of a plane. The move has further worsened relations between the two countries.

In another development, Adys Lastres Morera, the sister of a senior figure linked to Cuba’s military-backed GAESA business group, was arrested. GAESA controls large parts of Cuba’s economy and has become a key target of US pressure.

US Military Presence Grows in the Caribbean

The US military has announced that several navy ships, including an aircraft carrier, have arrived in the Caribbean for maritime exercises with regional partners.

Washington says the moves are linked to security concerns, but critics warn that the military buildup is increasing the risk of confrontation.

Analysts have also compared the pressure on Cuba to earlier US-backed action against Venezuela, where former President Nicolas Maduro was taken to the US and charged with “narcoterrorism”.

China and Russia Criticise US Pressure

Rubio has argued that Cuba’s security and intelligence ties with China and Russia make it a serious threat to the United States.

Both Beijing and Moscow have rejected Washington’s approach. China said it strongly supports Cuba and urged the US to reduce tensions instead of threatening force. Russia also criticised the use of pressure against current or former heads of state.

Cuba Crisis Enters a More Dangerous Phase

The dispute between the US and Cuba is becoming increasingly tense. Washington says it is acting to protect national security, while Havana says the US is using false claims to justify aggression.

With sanctions expanding, military activity increasing, and diplomatic options appearing limited, the situation has entered a more uncertain stage. Whether the crisis moves toward negotiation or confrontation may depend on how far the Trump administration is willing to go.
