Police are offering a $1 million reward to crack a double murder mystery, four months after a mother and her adult son were killed in their Western Australia home.

A grieving daughter and sister begged for closure on Tuesday as detectives announced the sizable incentive and released footage of Erica Coyne and Lloyd Mitchell’s final moments in public.

The pair, aged 69 and 50, were killed in their Albany home, about 400 kilometres south-east of Perth, on February 8.

CCTV shows some of their final moments: Coyne going to the IGA in their Spencer Park neighbourhood, Mitchell riding his bike in a shopping centre car park, and Coyne walking along Mokare Road on the way back to their Burville Street home.

“I can accept if my mother passed away naturally but something like this, how do you wrap your head around it,” Mary Eades said.

Police are so desperate to work out what happened to the mother and son and who did it that they’re dangling a $1 million carrot.

“It might seem like a small detail but that piece of information could be exactly what investigators need to charge someone, to bring them to justice and to achieve a conviction,” Police Minister Reece Whitby said.

Investigators have been scouring bushland for clues and poring over evidence but the murder weapon is yet to be identified

“We’ve spoken to over 200 witnesses … we’ve got over 700 exhibits,” Detective Senior Sergeant Stephen Cleal said.

Detectives maintain the case hasn’t gone cold. It’s very much an active investigation with a team still on the ground in Albany continuing to work on solving what happened to Coyne and Mitchell.

“There is no closure,” Eades said.

“It’s not going to bring my mum and brother back but people need to be held accountable.”
