Israeli forces have killed at least four Palestinians and wounded several others across Gaza, even as the six-week ceasefire remains in place. At the same time, a Palestinian armed group announced that it had recovered the body of another Israeli captive in the devastated territory.

On Monday, the casualties included a Palestinian man killed in a drone strike in the southern town of Bani Suheila, located in an area controlled by Israeli forces beyond the so-called “yellow line”.

Separately, a Palestinian child died in northern Gaza City after unexploded ordnance left behind by Israeli troops detonated, according to the civil defence authorities. Several other children were also injured, with some reported in critical condition.

Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum, reporting from Gaza City, confirmed that Israeli attacks continued throughout the day, with artillery fire, airstrikes, and helicopter attacks hitting areas in both northern and southern Gaza.

In Beit Lahiya, Israeli forces fired on areas outside the yellow line. Further south, tanks and helicopters targeted neighbourhoods northeast of Rafah and the outskirts of Khan Younis.

“There are extensive Israeli attacks beyond the yellow line that have resulted in the systematic destruction of Gaza’s eastern neighbourhoods,” Abu Azzoum reported.

He added that testimonies from families indicate a deliberate effort to destroy neighbourhoods and establish buffer zones, making them uninhabitable and preventing displaced residents from returning.

In central Gaza, civil defence teams—assisted by police and the Red Cross—recovered the bodies of eight members of one family from the rubble of their home in the Maghazi camp, which had been hit in an earlier Israeli attack, according to the Wafa news agency.

The Gaza Government Media Office reported that since the ceasefire began, 582 bodies have been retrieved, while more than 9,500 Palestinians remain missing beneath destroyed neighbourhoods.

Captive’s Body Recovered

The Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a faction allied with Hamas, announced it had found the body of an Israeli captive in the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza.

If confirmed, two more bodies must be recovered under the first phase of the ceasefire agreement. Israel is required to return the bodies of 15 Palestinians for each captive recovered.

Hamas has previously said that widespread destruction across Gaza has made locating the bodies of captives extremely difficult.

Also on Monday, the US-backed GHF, an aid organisation working parallel to UN humanitarian structures, announced it was ending operations in Gaza, citing provisions in the October ceasefire.

UN experts report that at least 859 Palestinians have been killed near GHF distribution points since May 2025, as Israeli forces and foreign contractors repeatedly opened fire on crowds seeking food. The programme faced heavy criticism for bypassing established humanitarian channels.

Israeli Attacks in the West Bank

Across the occupied West Bank, Israeli forces intensified raids overnight, arresting at least 16 Palestinians, according to Wafa. Detentions occurred in Iktaba near Tulkarem, Tuqu southeast of Bethlehem, Kobar near Ramallah, and Silat al-Harithiya west of Jenin.

Troops also detained residents in Tubas and surrounding areas.

Violence escalated further on Sunday night when Israeli forces fatally shot 20-year-old law student Baraa Khairi Ali Maali in Deir Jarir, north of Ramallah. Clashes erupted after Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian homes. Local council head Fathi Hamdan said soldiers entered to protect the settlers and then opened fire on Palestinians confronting them.

Maali was shot in the chest and died shortly after reaching the hospital. His death follows the fatal shooting of another young man by settlers in the same village a month earlier.

Elsewhere, two Palestinian women were injured and two brothers detained during a raid in Kafr Qaddum, east of Qalqilya. Settler attacks also continued, including fires set on farmland between Atara and Birzeit and the torching of olive trees and theft of farming tools in Atara.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 1,081 Palestinians in the West Bank, including 223 children, with over 10,614 wounded and more than 20,500 arrested.

Israeli Ceasefire Violations in Lebanon

In Lebanon, Hezbollah held a funeral for senior commander Haytham Ali Tabatabai, assassinated by Israel on Sunday. Images showed mourners carrying his coffin through Beirut’s southern suburbs. The group has not yet announced how it will respond.

Hezbollah officials accused Israel of another ceasefire violation, claiming it acted with support from the United States.

Analysts warned that while Hezbollah may feel pressure to retaliate, an aggressive response could trigger a large-scale war with Israel. Others noted that Hezbollah’s deterrence capabilities have weakened due to losses, reduced support, and disrupted supply routes.

Experts also argue that the Israeli government—facing political instability—may welcome escalation as a means of maintaining power.
