A Russia drone and missile attack on Kyiv early Saturday killed one person and injured seven others, according to city officials. Several residential districts were struck, and explosions were heard across the Ukrainian capital.
Residential Buildings Damaged Across Kyiv
Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said a 13-year-old child was among the injured, and four people were taken to hospital. The latest attack comes just days after a similar strike earlier in the week that killed seven people.
The bombardment occurred as Ukrainian negotiators prepared for discussions with US officials on an updated version of Washington’s peace proposal.
Multiple Areas Targeted, Officials Confirm
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, said the strike hit several locations on the city’s outskirts.
“Enemy drones are over the city, and air defence is responding,” he posted on Telegram.
He confirmed that one person was killed and seven were injured, including a child. Rescuers later recovered the body of a man in the Sviatoshynskyi district, located west of Kyiv.
In Brovary, east of the capital, two women were injured after “missiles and drones” struck residential areas, regional officials reported.

Fires Break Out Following the Strike
Klitschko said the attack triggered a fire on the lower floors of a high-rise building west of the city centre. Another fire in a central district was later extinguished by emergency teams.
Earlier this week, both Russia and Ukraine exchanged overnight strikes, damaging apartment buildings. Seven people were killed in Kyiv, while Russia’s Rostov region reported three deaths during the same escalation.
Attack Comes as Peace Negotiations Move Forward
Saturday’s strike occurred at a sensitive moment, as diplomatic efforts intensified. President Donald Trump has been pushing both sides to accept a revised US draft peace plan, which was initially seen as favoring Moscow’s demands.
The proposal was adjusted during talks between Ukrainian and US negotiators in Geneva.
On Thursday, President Vladimir Putin reiterated his conditions for ending the conflict, stating that Russia would halt its offensive only if Ukrainian forces withdraw from territories claimed by Moscow.
Putin also confirmed that a US delegation led by envoy Steve Witkoff is expected in Moscow next week to continue discussions on the draft plan.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address that Ukrainian and US officials would meet soon “to turn the points agreed in Geneva into a framework that moves us toward peace and security guarantees.”
