Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has cautioned against rising regional instability following a phone conversation with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, held amid heightened US military activity near Iran and growing concerns over a broader conflict.
The call took place shortly after the United States deployed the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier to the region, a move that has intensified speculation about possible military action involving Iran, Israel, or the United States.
Iran Criticises US Military Pressure
During the conversation, Pezeshkian criticised what he described as ongoing US “threats,” warning that such actions would only undermine regional security rather than achieve political goals.
According to a statement from the Iranian presidency, Pezeshkian said sustained pressure — including economic sanctions and foreign interference — had failed to weaken Iran’s resolve or public awareness. Instead, he argued, these measures risk pushing the region toward greater instability.
Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Neutrality and Stability Commitment
Saudi officials said Crown Prince Mohammed welcomed dialogue with Tehran and reaffirmed Riyadh’s position in support of regional stability and peaceful engagement.
Saudi state media reported that the crown prince stressed his country’s respect for Iran’s sovereignty and made clear that Saudi territory and airspace would not be used for any military action against Iran.
Riyadh also reiterated its support for resolving disputes through diplomatic dialogue, emphasizing cooperation among Islamic nations as essential to long-term regional security.
Pezeshkian, in turn, expressed appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s stance and praised the crown prince’s efforts to promote peace and stability across the Middle East.

US Threats and Military Build-Up Raise Tensions
The diplomatic exchange comes as US President Donald Trump has repeatedly warned Tehran of possible military consequences following Iran’s crackdown on nationwide protests.
Speaking at a rally in Iowa, Trump again referenced a significant US naval presence moving toward Iran, renewing calls for Tehran to comply with Washington’s demands.
While the US administration has said it remains open to negotiations, officials have indicated that Iran is already aware of the conditions required for talks to resume.
Iran Warns Neighbours Against Involvement
Amid escalating rhetoric, a senior commander from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps issued a warning to neighbouring states, saying any country that allows its land, airspace, or waters to be used against Iran would be considered hostile.
Iranian officials have consistently stressed that while they seek regional cooperation, they will respond forcefully if attacked.
Background of Recent Conflict
Tensions remain high following a wave of Israeli strikes on Iran in mid-2025 that targeted senior military figures, nuclear scientists, and key facilities. The conflict later expanded when the United States joined air operations against Iranian nuclear sites, halting planned nuclear negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Since then, Iran has rejected US demands to dismantle its nuclear programme, arguing that concessions under pressure would only invite further coercion.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry has warned that any military strike would have consequences beyond Iran’s borders, stressing that instability in the region would spread rapidly.
